M31 – Andromeda Galaxy

The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as Messier 31, M31, or NGC 224 and originally the Andromeda Nebula, is a barred spiral galaxy with diameter of about 220,000 ly approximately 2.5 million light-years from Earth and the nearest large galaxy to the Milky

This galaxy typically rises around sunset at the time of the Star Party in the NE.   By around 11-midnite it is high and well placed for looking at it in the Easter Sky.  Later it rises to be almost overhead and can be seen to the unaided eye on a clear night from the mountain top.
