Fire Prevention Steps
- No Campfires permitted.
- Be Careful When Smoking (this includes smoking inside vehicles).
- Practice safe operation and fueling of generators.
- Park vehicles where there is little natural fuel beneath.
- Pack fire extinguishers with you to MKSP.
- Establish a buddy system so that if person[s] leave for a hike, etc., someone remaining will know this.
- Mobility-impaired persons: operate with a buddy system.
If Fire or Smoke is Discovered
- Warn everyone on the hill. Call out. Speak clearly. Three blasts of vehicle horn. Repeat.
- In case of evacuation, pay attention to organizers for guidance.
- Remain calm, do not run. Drive vehicles at moderate speeds.

Call 1 800 663-5555 or (*5555 from a cell phone) as soon as possible.
Store these numbers in your “Contacts” and know where the cellular signal is strong enough to make a call.
When Reporting a Fire!
- Location: i.e. Where is the fire? How far up the hillside?
- Size: i.e. Metres? Hectares? Size of a house? Size of a football field?
- Rate of Spread: i.e. How quickly is the fire spreading?
- Fuel: i.e. What is burning? Grass, bushes, trees?
- Smoke/Flames: i.e. What colour is the smoke? Are flames visible?
- Threat: i.e. Are there any people or vehicles/tents at risk?
- Action: i.e. Is anyone fighting the fire?
